ADMISSIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
PCLA Requirements
Students must
- be at least eighteen (18) years old on or before the first day
of class or have written consent from parent/guardian
- fulfil visa requirements as set out by Canada Immigration
- have appropriate medical insurance on or before the first day
of class (preferably before leaving home).
How to register
- Send/bring us your completed application form, registration fees
Two (2) passport size photos.
- We will send/give you your Letter of Acceptance and receipt for
your registration fees. If you are applying from outside of Vancouver,
please include an e-mail/fax number for immediate confirmation (original
documents will be sent separately by mail). Please check with your
embassy as to whether they accept faxed or email confirmations.
If applicable, you will also receive confirmation of your homestay
one month before your arrival or after full payment.
- If you require a student visa, take the Letter of Acceptance,
a valid Passport and proof of sufficient funds for your stay in
Canada to the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate. Some countries
also require a medical exam, especially if you are studying six
months or more. The embassy will then issue your student authorization
or in some cases, give you an introduction letter which your can
exchange upon your arrival at Vancouver International Airport, for
a visa. The letter must be presented to Canada Immigration officials,
who in turn will place your visa into your passport.
- Once you receive your visa, or one month before starting classes,
you are required to pay your fees in full
- You will then receive the final details about your enrolment,
homestay, the school and Vancouver before you leave home.
- If you have arranged a homestay, your host family will meet you
at the airport. In order to guarantee airport pickup, please confirm
your flight plans no later than two (2) weeks in advance.
Visa Requirements
Consult the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate to find out
about time limitations and documentation. If you want to study for
longer than three months, you must have a student visa before arriving
in Canada.
Student Visa
To obtain a student visa you will need:
- a letter of acceptance from PCLA
- a letter from your bank showing sufficient finances
- a valid passport
Visitor Visa
People with a visitor visa may study for three months or less. People
with a working holiday visa may also take English classes in Canada.
Some visas can be extended in Canada but your status cannot be changed.
USA Visa
If you plan to visit the USA, check with the US Embassy or Consulate
in your country. You must get your US visa before you come to Canada,
as it is difficult to get access here.
Assessment
On your first day of class, before your first lesson (at 8am), you
will be required to complete both oral and written entrance examinations
to determine which level is most appropriate for you.
